IBM Certified Storage Administrator

Introduction

The IBM Certified Storage Administrator is an experienced storage administrator for the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 product.

Certification Overview

This individual has extensive knowledge and experience of storage management, specifically of the features and functionality of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5. This administrator is capable of performing the intermediate to advanced tasks related to daily management and operation, security, performance, installation and configuration of enhancements, customizations and/or problem determination.

Key Areas of Competency include the below :

1. Describe IBM Tivoli Storage Manager's concepts, features, functions and benefits.

2. Understand the business and technical storage management requirements including policy definitions, schedules, devices and communication requirements.

3. Maintain and update the components of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager environment.

4. Defining local storage devices, specify administrative schedules, authorize users, performance tuning, problem determination and resolution.

5. Set up LAN/SAN/WAN client(s) for backup/restore and archive/retrieve, backup schedules, performance tuning and problem determination and resolution.

Pre-requisites

1. In depth understanding and knowledge of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5

2. Hands-on experience administering an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 environment including the GUI and CLI

3. Backup methodologies (incremental, selective, image, progressive, on-site, off-site, etc.)

4. Basic operating systems knowledge and networking knowledge (LAN, SAN, WAN)

5. Basic storage device knowledge (disk, tape, NAS, etc.) and hardware knowledge (server, CPU, memory, etc.)

6. Working problem determination skill
